Summer Term 2024
Welcome to the Summer Term in our Year 1 classroom. We hope that you had a lovely Easter break!
We are really looking forward to diving into our new topics on
How have explorers changed the world? (History)What is like to live in Shanghai? (Geography)
Science: In Science the children will be learning how to:
- Identify common plants
- Know the features of plants
-Know what plants need
-Understand plant life cycles
-Recognise seasonal changes in plants and the environment
Home Learning:
This term we would like you to focus on:
-reading at home regularly (ideally daily, but x3 sessions a week as a minimum)
-practicing instant recall of phase 3 - 5 phonic sounds
-learning each weeks spellings for a test. These will be tested on a Friday and new spellings will also be sent home on a Friday.
Outdoor Woodland Learning:
We will try and get up to the woodland area whenever we can. We will always let you know via text when your child will need to be wearing their kit. An all-in-one waterproof (or waterproof trousers) really are a good investment! We will also have some scheduled sessions with Rachel Wild our outdoor learning specialist.
PE: The children have x2 sessions of PE a week. They will need to wear their PE kits to school on a Tuesday and the other session varies each term, so keep an eye out on the Friday Flyer.
Year 1 will enter school through the main gate in the mornings, and be dismissed from the classroom door onto the playground the end of the day.
If someone other than yourself is collecting your child, a note must be in their diary. We will not release them until you have been contacted.
As always if you have any queries or need to talk to us, feel free to drop a note in the diary or just grab us at the gate.
