Art and Design
“It doesn’t matter how the paint is put on, as long as something is said.” – Jackson Pollock
“I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn’t say in any other way- things I had no words for.” - Georgia O’Keefe
Intent
At St. Mary’s we aim to inspire pupils and develop their confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art. We intend to allow pupils to flourish in the Art & Design curriculum by giving every opportunity to develop their ability, nurture their talent and interests, express their ideas and thoughts about the world, as well as learning about the rich heritage and culture of Britain.
We use Kapow Primary to support the teaching and learning of Art & Design at St. Mary’s. It is a scheme written by experts in their field, providing structure and guidance for our teachers along with engaging themes for children. It supports pupils to meet the National Curriculum end of key stage requirements and fully covers the National Society for Education in Art and Design’s progression competencies.
We intend to inspire our children to create, experience, and participate in great arts and culture; including the study of artists, craft makers and architects through history.
